What the Sizes and Numbers Mean

• The millimetre number is the length of the pad, end to end. Roughly: 240mm is a regular daytime pad, 280 to 290mm is a large, and 317 to 340mm is extra-large or overnight.

• A longer pad is not more absorbent by itself — it covers more, which is what stops back leakage when you are lying down.

• Brands set their letters differently, so if you are switching brands, compare the millimetres rather than the L or XL.

• Match the pad to the day, not to the packet. Most people need a heavier pad for the first two days and a lighter one afterwards.

Belt System, Panty System and Wings

• Panty system — the ordinary modern pad, with an adhesive strip that sticks to the gusset of your underwear.

• Wings — flaps that fold around the sides and stick underneath. They hold the pad straight so it cannot shift, and they protect the edges of the underwear from side leaks.

• Belt system — the older design, with loops at each end that attach to a separate elastic waist belt. Nothing is glued to the fabric, which many people prefer, and the belt is usually sold separately.

How Often to Change a Pad

Every four to six hours, even on a light day and even if the pad still looks usable. That is a hygiene interval, not an absorbency one.

More often on heavy days — every three to four hours is normal for the first two.

• Wash your hands before and after.

• Wrap the used pad and bin it. Never flush one.

• Rinse with plain water and dry properly before the new pad goes on. Soap and intimate washes usually make irritation worse.

• Never use two pads at once.

When a Period Needs a Doctor

Soaking through a pad every hour or two for several hours, bleeding for more than seven days, clots larger than a 10-taka coin, pain that stops you working, bleeding between periods or after sex, or constant tiredness and breathlessness during your period. All of those are worth an appointment rather than another year of managing alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pads will I need for one period?

Usually between 10 and 20, depending on flow and on changing every four to six hours. A heavier pack for the first two days and a lighter one for the rest works out cheaper.

Scented or unscented?

Unscented, unless you have used perfumed pads for years without trouble. Fragrance is a common cause of itching, and it does not solve odour — changing the pad does.

Why do I get a rash every month?

Usually heat and friction rather than hygiene. Change more often, try an unscented pad, wear cotton underwear, and dry properly at each change.

How long does delivery take?

Inside Dhaka, usually one to three working days. Outside Dhaka, generally two to five, depending on the courier and your location. We contact you to confirm the order before it is dispatched.
