Cleansing Is Where Most Routines Go Wrong

Not because people skip it, but because they overdo it.

• Tight and squeaky is not clean. That feeling means the cleanser has stripped the skin’s protective barrier along with the dirt. Skin then produces more oil to compensate, which is why aggressive cleansing makes oily skin oilier over a few weeks.

• Twice a day is enough. Morning and night. More than that is where redness, flaking and stinging come from.

• Lukewarm water only. Hot water strips more oil than any cleanser does.

• Thirty seconds is plenty. A cleanser is on the face briefly by design; scrubbing for two minutes damages rather than deep-cleans.

Which Cleanser for Which Skin

• Gel or foam — for oily and combination skin. Rinses clean, leaves nothing behind.

• Cream or milk — for dry and sensitive skin. Cleans gently and leaves the barrier intact.

• Micellar water — no rinsing needed, good for a quick evening clean and for removing light make-up.

• Oil or balm — the best thing there is for dissolving sunscreen, waterproof make-up and the day’s sebum. Oil dissolves oil; water does not.

Double Cleansing — Worth It or Not?

If you wear sunscreen or make-up, yes. Sunscreen is designed to stay put on skin through sweat, which is exactly why a water-based face wash cannot fully remove it — and sunscreen left on overnight is a genuine cause of congestion. First an oil or balm to dissolve it, then a normal face wash. If you wear neither, once is enough and a second cleanse is just extra stripping.

Should I use a different cleanser morning and night?

You can, and it often makes sense: something gentle in the morning when there is only overnight oil to remove, and a more thorough cleanse at night to take off sunscreen and pollution.

Are face wash and cleanser the same thing?

“Face wash” usually means a foaming, rinse-off product; “cleanser” covers that and everything else — creams, oils, balms and micellar waters. All of them are cleansing; they differ in how, and in how much they strip.

My skin stings after washing. What is wrong?

Almost always a damaged barrier from over-cleansing, hot water, or too many actives at once. Switch to a cream cleanser, cut to twice a day, stop all actives for two weeks and moisturise. It usually settles.

How do I know the product is genuine?

Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.

How much shelf life will it have?

We stock to arrive well within date and do not knowingly ship anything close to expiry. If you need a specific minimum for a particular order, ask before placing it and we will check the batch.
