• Wax — pliable hold, low to medium shine, restyleable through the day. The everyday choice for short and medium hair.

• Clay — matte finish and texture, medium hold. Best for a natural, undone look and for adding thickness to fine hair.

• Cream — light control and conditioning rather than hold. For softening and directing rather than sculpting.

• Mousse — volume at the root on damp hair, particularly for fine hair and curls.

• Hairspray — the finishing layer that locks a style, applied last.

Applying It So It Works

• Less than you think. A pea-sized amount for short hair; a coin-sized amount for longer. Too much is the reason styling products look greasy.

• Warm it thoroughly between your palms until it is almost invisible. Applied as a lump, it lands as a lump.

• Start at the back and work forwards, and apply from the mid-lengths rather than the roots.

• Damp hair for gels, mousses and creams; dry hair for wax and clay.

• Build up in layers rather than applying everything at once.

Build-Up, Scalp Health and Washing It Out

• Wash styling product out at the end of the day. Leaving wax or gel in overnight, night after night, is a genuine cause of an itchy, flaking scalp and clogged follicles — and it is one of the more common reasons people here develop scalp trouble.

• Heavy waxes and clays need a proper shampoo, not a quick rinse.

• Use a clarifying shampoo once a month to clear accumulated residue.

• Alcohol-heavy sprays and gels dry the hair; balance them with a conditioner.

• If your scalp itches or flakes since you started using a product, that is the likely cause.

Wax or clay?

Wax for shine and pliability, clay for matte texture and volume. Clay suits fine hair better because it does not weigh it down.

Does styling product cause hair loss?

Not directly. What does cause trouble is leaving product in for days, which irritates the scalp and clogs follicles, and pulling hair into tight styles.

How do I wash out heavy wax?

Apply shampoo to dry hair first, work it in, then add water. Trying to wash wax out of already-wet hair is why it seems not to come out.

How do I know the product is genuine?

Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.

How much shelf life will it have?

We stock to arrive well within date and do not knowingly ship anything close to expiry. If you need a specific minimum for a particular order, ask before placing it and we will check the batch.
