Choosing the Right Product

• Clay — matte finish, medium hold, adds visible thickness. The best choice for fine or thinning hair and for a natural, textured look.

• Wax — pliable, low to medium shine, restyleable through the day. The everyday all-rounder for short and medium hair.

• Pomade — high shine, strong hold, for slicked and classic styles. Oil-based pomades are the hardest to wash out; water-based ones rinse easily.

• Gel — strongest hold, wet look, sets firm. Good for very thick hair; can flake as it dries.

• Cream — light control and conditioning rather than hold, for softening and directing.

Applying It Properly

• A pea-sized amount for short hair. Too much is the single reason styling product looks greasy.

• Warm it between your palms until it is almost invisible. Applied as a lump, it lands as a lump — this is the step most men skip.

• Start at the back and work forwards, and apply from the mid-lengths rather than the roots.

• Towel-dry or blow-dry first. Clay and wax go on dry or nearly dry hair; gel and cream on damp.

• Build in layers rather than applying everything at once.

Scalp Health — the Part Nobody Mentions

• Wash styling product out at the end of the day. Leaving wax, clay or gel in overnight, night after night, is a genuine and common cause of an itchy, flaking scalp and clogged follicles here.

• Heavy waxes and clays need a proper shampoo. Apply shampoo to dry hair first, work it in, then add water — trying to wash wax out of already-wet hair is why it seems not to come out.

• A clarifying shampoo once a month clears accumulated residue.

• If your scalp has itched or flaked since you started a product, that is the likely cause.

• Do not sleep with product in.

Not directly. What does cause trouble is leaving product in for days, which irritates the scalp and clogs follicles. Wash it out daily and it is not a concern.

How do I get pomade out of my hair?

Shampoo on dry hair first, worked in thoroughly before adding water. Oil-based pomades may need two washes.

How do I know the product is genuine?

Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.

How much shelf life will it have?

We stock to arrive well within date and do not knowingly ship anything close to expiry. If you need a specific minimum for a particular order, ask before placing it and we will check the batch.
