How to Use a Hair Mask

1. Shampoo first and squeeze the hair out. A mask cannot get into hair that is already full of water.
2. Work it through the mid-lengths and ends. Keep it off the scalp — this is for the hair, and roots do not need it.
3. Leave it the time the pack says, usually 3 to 10 minutes. Longer does not do more; hair takes up what it can and the rest rinses away.
4. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Anything left behind weighs hair down and makes it look greasy by the next day.
5. Use it once or twice a week, in place of your conditioner rather than as well as it.

Heat and Your Hair
