Product Overview

A heated straightener designed for beards as well as head hair. Beard straighteners have narrower plates or a comb-style head, because a full-size hair straightener is clumsy and risky close to the face.

It is used to flatten curl and kink in beard hair, pull the shape downward and make a beard look fuller, longer and considerably tidier.

How to Use It Without Damaging the Beard

1. Always use it on a completely dry beard. Heat on wet hair boils the water inside the shaft and shatters it. This is the single biggest cause of damage.
2. Apply a heat protectant, or at minimum a beard oil, before you start.
3. Start at the lowest heat setting that works. Coarse hair needs more; do not begin at maximum.
4. Keep it moving. One slow pass per section — never hold it in one place.
5. Work in small sections from the top of the cheek downward.
6. Keep the plates away from your skin. It is a hot metal tool near your face; go slowly the first few times.
7. Finish with beard oil or balm to restore some of what heat takes out.

Be Honest About Heat

Heat styling damages hair. There is no version of it that does not. Used a few times a week with a protectant and a moderate setting, that damage is manageable. Used daily on high heat it makes the beard dry, brittle and split — the opposite of what you wanted.

Two or three times a week is a sensible ceiling, with oil on the other days.

Looking After a Beard

A beard is not hair on a head — the skin underneath is facial skin, and most beard problems are skin problems.

• Wash it with a beard wash or a gentle shampoo, not with soap or face wash. Soap strips the oils and leaves the hair coarse and the skin underneath flaking.
• Wash two or three times a week rather than daily unless it gets dirty.
• Beard oil goes on the skin, not just the hair. Work a few drops into the skin underneath with your fingertips — that is where the itch and the flakes come from.
• Comb or brush it through after oiling. It spreads the oil and trains the hair to lie flat.
• Trim the neckline and the cheek line regularly. A beard that is otherwise fine looks unkempt the moment those two lines are not.
• Beard itch in the first two or three weeks of growing is normal — it is cut hair ends against skin, and it passes.

Safety and Care

• Never use it near water — not in the shower, not with wet hands.
• Unplug it after every use and let it cool on a heat-safe surface before putting it away.
• Keep it away from children.
• Wipe the cooled plates with a soft damp cloth to remove product build-up.
• Do not wrap the cable tightly round the body — that is what breaks the wire at the joint.

Can I use my hair straightener instead?

You can, but the plates are wide and awkward on a face and the risk of burning yourself is higher. A beard tool is narrower for a reason.

How long does the effect last?

Until the next wash, or until humidity gets to it. Dhaka humidity is not kind to straightened hair.

Will it damage my beard?

Heat always causes some damage. Use it dry, with a protectant, on a moderate setting, a few times a week rather than daily.
