Start With the Scalp, Not the Length

Almost every hair problem people bring to us is a scalp problem wearing a disguise. It is worth understanding why:

• Hair above the skin is dead protein. Nothing applied to it makes it grow, and nothing repairs it in the sense of undoing damage. What a good conditioner or mask does is smooth the outer layer so hair reflects light, tangles less and breaks less — and less breakage is a real, visible result.

• Growth happens in the follicle, under the skin. That is why oils and serums go on the scalp and not on the ends.

• Dandruff is usually a yeast the scalp reacts to, not dryness — which is why more oil often makes it worse and an anti-dandruff shampoo used properly makes it better.

Building a Routine That Works in This Climate

• Wash with lukewarm water, never hot. Hot water roughens the cuticle and dries the scalp.

• Shampoo the scalp, condition the lengths. Conditioner on the roots weighs hair down; shampoo scrubbed through the ends causes tangles and breakage.

• Never comb soaking wet hair. Wet hair stretches and snaps. Let it dry most of the way, then work a wide-toothed comb from the ends upward.

• Loosen tight ponytails and braids. Constant tension causes genuine, and eventually permanent, hair loss at the hairline.

• Give a new product three months. Hair grows about a centimetre a month, so nothing you start today shows up sooner than that.

Genuine Products

Much of this catalogue is imported, and imported shelves are where fakes and repacks appear. Whoever you buy from, these are worth checking:

• The seal. An intact shrink wrap or safety ring is what tells you a product has not been opened.

• The batch number and expiry printed on the pack itself, not on a sticker over it. A sticker covering the original printing is the commonest sign of a repack.

• A price far below everyone else’s is information — sometimes a genuine clearance, often a fake or something close to expiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I wash my hair?

In this climate, every day or every other day is fine with a gentle shampoo — sweat, dust and pollution are harder on a scalp than washing is. Oily scalps often do better washed daily; very dry or curly hair usually prefers two or three times a week.

Will oiling make my hair grow?

It will not increase growth, and no oil does. What regular oiling genuinely does is reduce breakage, ease combing and calm a dry, itchy scalp — which for most people is most of the visible problem. Do not leave a heavy oil on for days in this heat; it encourages dandruff.

My hair is falling. Should I buy a hair fall shampoo?

Look at what is coming out first. Hair that snaps mid-length is breakage, and a conditioning shampoo helps. Hair that comes out with a small white bulb has come from the root — and the common causes here are iron deficiency, thyroid problems and illness a few months earlier. A blood test is a better first step than a bottle.

How do I know the product is genuine?

Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.

How long does delivery take?
