What Baby Skin Needs

• It is about 20% thinner than adult skin and its protective barrier is still developing through the first year — so it dries out faster and absorbs more of what is applied.

• Fewer ingredients is better. Fragrance-free, dye-free and a short ingredient list is the most useful thing to look for.

• Moisturise while the skin is still damp, within three minutes of a bath. That single habit does more than any particular product.

• Patch test anything new on a small area of the arm and wait a day before using it all over.

Nappy Rash — What Actually Helps

Nappy rash is mostly moisture, friction and ammonia against thin skin. The answer is not a stronger cream:

• Change more often, and immediately after a bowel movement.

• Clean with water or a fragrance-free wipe, and dry the creases properly.

• Nappy-free time — even ten minutes twice a day makes a visible difference.

• A zinc-based barrier cream at every change. Apply it thickly enough that you can still see it; it is a barrier, not a moisturiser to rub in.

• See a doctor if the rash spreads beyond the nappy area, blisters, weeps, has bright red patches with small spots around the edge — which suggests thrush and needs an antifungal — or comes with a fever.

A Word on Powder

Talcum powder is traditional here and worth reconsidering. Inhaled powder is a real risk to small lungs, and it cakes in damp folds where it makes a rash worse rather than better. A barrier cream does the job it is used for, and does it better.

Does my baby need a moisturiser every day?

Most babies benefit from it after a bath, especially in winter and in air conditioning. If the skin is not dry, plain water and no product is perfectly fine — babies do not need a routine.

Are natural or herbal baby products safer?

Not automatically. Essential oils and plant extracts are common causes of skin reaction, and “natural” is not a regulated word. A short, boring ingredient list beats a natural-sounding one.

Can I use adult moisturiser on my baby?

Better not. Adult products are usually fragranced and more heavily preserved, and baby skin absorbs more relative to body size. A plain, fragrance-free baby lotion is the safer choice.

How do I know the product is genuine?

Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.

How much shelf life will it have?

We stock to arrive well within date and do not knowingly ship anything close to expiry. If you need a specific minimum for a particular order, ask before placing it and we will check the batch.
