Why Baby Skin Needs Different Products

A newborn’s skin is around thinner than an adult’s and its barrier is still developing, so it loses water faster and absorbs more of whatever is applied to it. That is the practical reason to prefer a short ingredient list and a mild formula on an infant — not because gentle sounds nicer, but because more of the product gets through.

Babies also do not need bathing every day. Two or three baths a week with topping and tailing in between is enough for most infants in the first months, and over-washing is a common cause of dryness.

How to Use

1. Apply within a few minutes of lifting the baby out of the bath, while the skin is still slightly damp.
2. Warm a small amount between your palms first.
3. Smooth over the body with light strokes, avoiding the face and the nappy area unless the pack says otherwise.
4. Reapply to dry patches — elbows, knees, cheeks — as needed through the day.
