Whisper Maxi Fit L+, 15 pads — extra-large wings for a secure fit, quick-dry technology, and a soft top layer.
Dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic, which is the reason to choose this one if your skin reacts.
Product Overview
Whisper Maxi Fit Sanitary Pads, L+ with Wings, in a 15-pad pack. Whisper describe them as offering up to 100% leakage protection for heavy flow days, with extra-large wings for a secure fit, a soft top layer for gentle contact with skin, and quick-dry technology that locks moisture away.
They are sold as suitable for overnight use and long hours, with odour control, and — the specification that matters most for some people — they are dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic.
Hypoallergenic and Dermatologically Tested — What That Actually Means
These two terms get used loosely, so here is the honest version:
- Dermatologically tested means the product has been assessed on skin under a dermatologist’s supervision. It is a statement that testing was done, not a promise of the result.
- Hypoallergenic means the formula is designed to minimise the ingredients most likely to provoke a reaction. It is not a guarantee — anyone can react to anything.
- Where it genuinely helps: if you get itching, redness or a rash every month with ordinary pads, a hypoallergenic pad is a sensible thing to change first, before you change anything else.
Why Extra-Large Wings Matter
- Most leaks are position failures, not capacity failures. A pad that has shifted sideways leaks at the edge long before the core is full.
- Bigger wings mean more adhesive area under the underwear, so the pad cannot rotate or bunch when you move.
- They also shield the edges of the underwear itself, which is the difference between a stain on a pad and a stain on your clothes.
Quick-Dry and Why the Surface Matters More Than the Size
A quick-dry top sheet takes liquid off the surface fast and holds it in the core, so the layer touching your skin stays comparatively dry through a long wear.
That is what prevents chafing. Most period soreness is not the pad being too small — it is a damp surface rubbing warm skin for hours. On a pad worn for a long day or overnight, the top sheet does more for comfort than an extra centimetre of length.
What the Sizes and Numbers Actually Mean
Pad packs are labelled in two different ways and shops rarely explain either.
- The millimetre number is the length of the pad, end to end. Roughly: 240mm is a regular daytime pad, 280 to 290mm is a large, 317 to 340mm is an extra-large or overnight pad. A longer pad is not more absorbent by itself — it covers more, which is what stops back leakage when you are lying down.
- Regular, Large, XL and XL+ follow the same order. Different brands set the millimetres differently, so if you are switching brands, compare the millimetres and not the letters.
Match the pad to the day, not to the packet. Most people need a heavier pad for the first two days and a lighter one after that, and buying one size for the whole period means being uncomfortable for half of it.
How Often to Change a Pad
- Change every four to six hours, even on a light day and even if the pad still looks usable. That is a hygiene interval, not an absorbency one.
- On a heavy day, change more often — every three to four hours is normal for the first two days.
- Wash your hands before and after. Both times.
- Wrap the used pad in its wrapper or in paper and put it in a bin. Never flush a pad; it does not break down and it blocks the line.
- Rinse with plain water and pat dry before the new pad goes on. Soap and intimate washes are not needed and often make irritation worse.
- Never use two pads at once to make one last longer. It does not work and it traps moisture against the skin.
Toxic shock syndrome is rare with pads — it is mainly associated with tampons left in too long — but a pad worn for many hours in a hot climate is still the main cause of period rash and itching. Sudden high fever, vomiting, dizziness and a sunburn-like rash during a period need emergency medical care, whichever product you are using.
Rash, Itching and Chafing
Period rash is heat and friction, not dirt. In Bangladesh’s climate it is very common and it is worth knowing what actually helps:
- Change more often. A damp pad against skin for six hours is the single biggest cause.
- Try an unscented pad. Perfumed pads smell pleasant in the packet and are a frequent cause of contact irritation in the people who react to them.
- Cotton underwear, not synthetic, and not too tight.
- Rinse with plain water at each change and dry properly before the new pad goes on.
- Plain petroleum jelly or a barrier cream on the chafed area between changes.
- Do not use antiseptic, soap or an intimate wash on broken skin. It stings, it strips the natural protective layer, and it makes the next day worse.
If the rash blisters, weeps, spreads, or comes back every single month, see a doctor — a fungal infection and a contact allergy look similar and are treated differently.
When a Period Needs a Doctor, Not a Bigger Pad
Buying a heavier pad is the right answer to a heavy day. It is the wrong answer to some things, and these are worth knowing:
- Soaking through a pad every hour or two, for several hours in a row. That is medically heavy bleeding and it is a common cause of anaemia here.
- Bleeding for more than seven days every cycle.
- Clots larger than a 10-taka coin, repeatedly.
- Pain that stops you going to work or school, or that painkillers do not touch.
- Bleeding between periods, after sex, or after menopause.
- Constant tiredness, breathlessness or dizziness during your period — that is what iron deficiency feels like, and it is treatable.
None of these means something is seriously wrong. All of them mean it is worth a doctor’s appointment rather than another year of managing it alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does L+ mean?
It is Whisper’s large-plus length — between their regular and their XL. Brands set their letters differently, so compare millimetres if you are switching between brands.
How does this compare with Whisper Maxi Nights?
Maxi Nights is XL at 317mm with a wider back, made specifically for lying down. Maxi Fit L+ is a shorter, all-day pad with larger wings. If your problem is overnight back leaks, Maxi Nights; if it is a pad shifting during an active day, Maxi Fit.
Can I wear one overnight?
Yes, and an XL or overnight length is made for exactly that. Change it immediately before you sleep and immediately when you wake, and accept that a night counts as one long wear — that is why the extra length matters.
How many pads will I need for one period?
Most people use somewhere between 10 and 20 pads across a period, depending on flow and on how strictly you change every four to six hours. Buying a heavier pack for the first two days and a lighter one for the rest works out cheaper than one size for everything.
Scented or unscented?
Unscented, unless you have used a perfumed pad for years with no trouble. Perfume in a pad is a common cause of itching and contact irritation, and it does not solve odour — changing the pad does.
