Description

Product Overview

A reusable urine collection bag with a 1000ml capacity, made from silicone and held in place by a belt. It is a practical aid for anyone who cannot reach a toilet reliably — through incontinence, restricted mobility, bed rest after surgery, or a long journey.

It is supplied as one set, in sizes fitted for men, for elderly men and for women. Country of origin: China.

What It Is and What It Is Not

  • It is an external collection device. Nothing is inserted; it collects, it does not drain the bladder.
  • It is not a catheter. An indwelling catheter is placed by a nurse or doctor, for medical reasons, and this is not a substitute for one.
  • It is reusable, which makes it far cheaper over time than disposable pads or adult diapers, and it means cleaning it properly is not optional.

Living With Incontinence — the Practical Part

Incontinence is common, it is not a normal part of getting old, and it is very often treatable. A collector makes daily life manageable; it is worth also getting the cause looked at.

  • See a doctor about it at least once. An enlarged prostate, a urinary infection, diabetes, medication side effects and weak pelvic floor muscles all cause this and all have treatments. Many people manage for years with a device when a course of treatment would have helped.
  • Do not cut down on drinking to reduce the problem. It is the most common thing people try and it backfires — concentrated urine irritates the bladder and makes urgency worse, and dehydration causes infections and confusion in older people.
  • Tea, coffee and cola are bladder irritants. Reducing those helps more than reducing water.
  • Skin is the thing to protect. Urine on skin for hours causes a burn-like rash that breaks down and becomes very hard to heal. Wash with plain water, dry properly, and use a barrier cream.

Contact a doctor promptly if there is burning, fever, blood in the urine, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, or new confusion in an older person. Those are the signs of a urinary tract infection, which is the most common complication of using any collection device.

Cleaning and Hygiene

  1. Empty it before it is full, and at least every three to four hours during the day. A full bag pulls on the tubing and leaks.
  2. Rinse thoroughly with clean water after every emptying.
  3. Wash daily with warm water and mild soap, rinse until no soap remains, and let it air dry completely before the next use. Soap residue is a skin irritant.
  4. Do not use bleach, boiling water or strong disinfectant on silicone unless the maker says so — they harden it and it cracks.
  5. Keep the bag below the level of the bladder. Urine flowing back up the tube is the main cause of infection with any collection device.
  6. Check the silicone every week for cracks, tears or stiffness, and replace it when you find them.
  7. Store it clean, dry and out of sunlight.

Getting the Fit Right

  1. Choose the correct size version before you order. A collector that does not fit leaks, and a strap that is too tight causes pressure sores.
  2. The belt should be firm enough to hold the position and loose enough to slide a finger under.
  3. Check the skin underneath every day for redness, marks or soreness, especially on an older person who may not report it.
  4. Keep the bag below the level of the bladder at all times so nothing flows back.
  5. Empty it before it is full — a full 1000ml bag is heavy and drags on the fitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does one fill last?

1000ml is a large capacity — comfortably a night for most people. That said, empty it every three to four hours during the day regardless of how full it is; that is a hygiene interval, not a capacity one.

Can it be worn under normal clothes?

Yes. It is designed to be worn discreetly under trousers or a lungi with the belt at the waist.

How long does it last before it needs replacing?

That depends entirely on cleaning. Check the silicone weekly and replace it as soon as you find cracks, stiffness or a tear — a cracked seam is where both leaks and bacteria start.

Is it safe for someone with sensitive skin?

Medical-grade silicone is well tolerated by most people. The bigger risk to the skin is not the silicone but urine left in contact with it, which is why washing, drying and a barrier cream matter more than the material.
