An adjustable silicone haircut band. It stretches around the head to give the clipper a continuous curved edge to follow, for a neckline, a fade guide or an even all-round line.

Silicone is the right material for this: it grips hair and skin rather than sliding, it bends to the shape of the head, and it does not snag hair the way a hard plastic edge can.

Band or Rigid Template?

• A band follows the curve of your head and gives a continuous line all the way round — better for a fade guide or an even all-round cut.
• A rigid template gives a straighter, sharper edge at the back — better for a blocked neckline.

They solve slightly different problems, and neither replaces the other.

How to Use It

1. Start with dry, combed hair.
2. Stretch the band over the head and position it slightly LOWER than you think you need. You can take more off; you cannot put it back.
3. Check it is level on both sides in the mirror before touching the clipper.
4. Run the clipper along the edge of the band, not under it, in short strokes.
5. Work in one direction all the way round rather than jumping about.
6. Check with a hand mirror before a second pass.
7. Remove the band and blend the line with a longer guard so it does not sit as a hard step.

Two Things Worth Knowing

• The commonest home-cut mistake is going too high and then evening it up repeatedly until the hairline has climbed. Start low.
• A hard line grows out obviously. Blending it with a longer guard afterwards is what makes it still look right in two weeks.

Hygiene

• Do not share razors, blades or trimmer heads. They break the skin, and anything that breaks skin can pass on infection.
• Rinse and dry a razor after every use and stand it somewhere it can air. A wet blade in a closed bathroom cabinet blunts and grows bacteria.
• Clean a trimmer head between users if it is shared inside a household.
• Do not shave over a spot, a mole or broken skin.

Care

• Rinse and wipe it after use — cut hair clings to silicone.
• Store it flat or loosely coiled, not stretched.
• Keep it out of direct sun; heat degrades silicone over time.
• Clean it between users.
