Who These Are Genuinely For

• Anyone who cannot eat enough. Recovery from illness or surgery, a small appetite in older age, or someone losing weight unintentionally. This is the clearest use, and a nutrition drink can make a real difference.

• Older adults, where appetite and absorption both decline and protein intake commonly falls short.

• Genuinely restricted diets.

• People training seriously, where protein needs are higher than an ordinary diet supplies.

• For a child eating normally, these are usually unnecessary. Children’s health drinks are heavily marketed on height and growth, and no drink makes a child taller — height is genetics and overall nutrition. What these products mostly add is sugar. Many are 25% sugar or more by weight, which is worth knowing before making one a daily habit.

Reading the Label

• Check sugar per 100g. Under 5g is low; over 22.5g is high. A surprising number of nutrition drinks are above 25g.

• Check protein per serving, and check what the serving actually is — often three or four heaped spoons rather than one.

• Compare with milk. Plain milk is frequently cheaper per gram of protein than a flavoured nutrition powder, and it has no added sugar.

• Check the allergens — milk, soy and nuts run through this category.

Using Them Properly

These are supplements to food, not replacements for it. Use them between meals rather than instead of meals, so they add nutrition rather than displacing it. Mix with clean drinking water or milk as directed, use a dry spoon, and keep the tin airtight — humidity here turns powder solid within weeks of opening. Note the “use within” period after opening.

Will a health drink make my child taller?

No. Height is determined by genetics and overall nutrition over years. No drink changes it, and many of these contain a great deal of sugar.

Do I need protein powder?

Only if you are not getting enough from food. Most people are. It is genuinely useful for serious training, poor appetite or recovery — and convenient rather than necessary otherwise.

Can these replace a meal?

Only where a doctor has recommended it, such as after surgery or with a very poor appetite. Otherwise use them between meals.

How do I know the product is genuine?

Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.

How much shelf life will it have?

We stock to arrive well within date and do not knowingly ship anything close to expiry. If you need a specific minimum for a particular order, ask before placing it and we will check the batch.
