Milk, Dark and White — and What the Percentage Means

• Milk chocolate is typically 25-40% cocoa solids, with milk powder and more sugar. Sweeter and softer.

• Dark chocolate runs 50-85%. The higher the number, the less sugar and the more bitter and intense — not better, just different. 70% is where most people find the balance.

• White chocolate contains cocoa butter but no cocoa solids, which is why it is pale and very sweet.

• “Chocolate flavoured” or compound chocolate replaces cocoa butter with vegetable fat. It is cheaper, survives heat better, and tastes noticeably waxier. Real chocolate lists cocoa butter.

Chocolate in Bangladeshi Heat

Chocolate melts at body temperature, which makes it the most difficult thing in this catalogue to keep in perfect condition.

• Above about 24°C it starts to soften.

• “Bloom” is the pale, dusty or streaky surface that appears after a warm spell — cocoa butter or sugar that has separated and recrystallised. It is completely safe to eat. Only the texture and appearance change.

• Coolest cupboard, or the fridge in summer, in a sealed box.

• Chocolate absorbs smells readily. Never store it uncovered next to onions, spices or fish.

• Let refrigerated chocolate return to room temperature in its wrapper before opening, or condensation forms on the surface and makes it grainy.

No. That is bloom, and it is safe to eat — the texture is slightly affected and the flavour is not. It is the unavoidable risk of shipping chocolate in the hot months.

Is dark chocolate good for you?

It contains flavanols and less sugar than milk chocolate, and a small amount is a reasonable pleasure. It is still calorie-dense confectionery.

Is imported chocolate halal?

Where a pack carries certification, the listing says so. Where it does not, we do not claim it — check for gelatin in fillings and alcohol in liqueur chocolates.

How much shelf life will it have?

We stock to arrive well within date and do not knowingly ship anything close to expiry. If you need a specific minimum for a particular order, ask before placing it and we will check the batch.

How long does delivery take?

Inside Dhaka, usually one to three working days. Outside Dhaka, generally two to five, depending on the courier and your location. We contact you to confirm the order before it is dispatched.
