An Honest Word on Intimate Hygiene
A healthy vagina cleans itself. It maintains its own acidity and its own bacteria, and that balance is what protects it from infection.

Never douche. Flushing the inside pushes out the bacteria that keep you healthy and is associated with a higher rate of bacterial vaginosis and pelvic infection. The evidence on this is not close.
The outside needs plain warm water and nothing else. If you want to use something, an unperfumed mild wash on the outside only.
A new or strong odour is information, not a hygiene failure. A fishy smell, a change in discharge, itching or burning are signs of an infection. Covering them with fragrance delays the visit that would treat them.

Period Care Basics
Change a pad every four to six hours, even on a light day — that is a hygiene interval, not an absorbency one. Wash hands before and after, never use two pads at once, and never flush one. Rinse with plain water and dry properly at each change; soap and intimate washes usually make irritation worse.

A new or strong smell, a change in discharge, itching or burning. Those are medical signs, and bacterial vaginosis and thrush are both common and easily treated.
