Product Overview

A beard filling kit containing a fine-tip pen and a brush. The pen draws individual hair-like strokes; the brush blends them and fills wider areas. Both are waterproof and stand up to sweat and light rain.

Having both matters. A pen alone gives crisp strokes that can look drawn on; a brush alone can look like a shadow. Used together — pen for the strokes, brush to soften them — the result reads as hair.

Cosmetic, Not a Dye

This is makeup for a beard. It sits on the skin and hair, lasts the day, and washes off with a cleanser. It does not grow hair and it is not a permanent colourant, so there is no growing-out line and no 48-hour allergy test as with a real dye.

How to Get a Natural Result

1. Start with a clean, dry, oil-free beard. It will not grip over beard oil.
2. Pen first. Draw short flicks the length of a real beard hair, following the direction the surrounding hair grows.
3. Work on the edges of a patch rather than filling the middle. The eye completes the rest.
4. Brush second, very lightly, to soften and blend the strokes into the surrounding hair.
5. Build up gradually. Two light passes beat one heavy one, and heavy is what looks fake.
6. Choose a shade slightly lighter than your natural beard.
7. Check in daylight. Bathroom lighting is forgiving in a way the street is not.

Patch Test First

Before the first full use, put a small amount on the inside of your forearm or behind the ear and leave it for 24 hours. If there is redness, itching, burning or a rash, do not use it on your face.

This matters more than it sounds for grooming products. Freshly shaved skin has had its top layer scraped off, and a fragranced product that is fine on an arm can sting badly on a face that was shaved five minutes ago.

Keep it out of your eyes. If it gets in, rinse with plenty of cool water.

What It Is Good For, and What It Is Not

• Good for: small patches, a soft or uneven beard line, a sparse moustache, covering a scar, an event or a photograph.
• Not good for: a genuinely sparse beard across a large area — there has to be real hair for drawn strokes to blend into.
• Not a growth product. If patchiness bothers you long term, topical minoxidil is the only option with real evidence behind it, and that is a conversation with a doctor.

Removing It

Waterproof formulas need a cleanser or micellar water on a cotton pad — water alone will not do it. Do not scrub.
