Why Himalaya Is Worth a Category of Its Own
• It is a genuinely established name. Himalaya has been making herbal formulations since 1930 and is one of the few brands in this space that runs its own research and manufacturing rather than relabelling.
• The formulations are plainly stated. The active herbs are named on the pack — neem, turmeric, tulsi, aloe, bhringraj — rather than hidden behind a proprietary blend.
• It is affordable and widely available, which matters for products you use every day rather than occasionally.
• It suits this climate and these skin and hair types, being formulated in the subcontinent for the subcontinent.
What Herbal Means, Honestly
Herbal is a genuine tradition and it is also a marketing word, so it is worth separating the two.
• Plants are chemistry. Neem, turmeric and tea tree have real antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity — and that also means they can irritate, and that “herbal” does not mean “cannot cause a reaction”.
• Patch test anyway. Plant extracts and essential oils are among the more common causes of contact allergy.
• Herbal supplements interact with medication. Tell your doctor what you take.
• Give it time. Herbal formulations generally work gently and gradually — six to eight weeks is a fair trial.
Genuine Products
Much of this catalogue is imported, and imported shelves are where fakes and repacks appear. Whoever you buy from, these are worth checking:
• The seal. An intact shrink wrap or safety ring is what tells you a product has not been opened.
• The batch number and expiry printed on the pack itself, not on a sticker over it. A sticker covering the original printing is the commonest sign of a repack.
• A price far below everyone else’s is information — sometimes a genuine clearance, often a fake or something close to expiry.
If what arrives does not match its listing, tell us. We would rather take a return than leave a wrong description standing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the products imported or local?
The Himalaya products we stock are imported, and the product page states the origin. Formulations and pack sizes vary slightly between manufacturing regions.
Is herbal gentler than conventional skin care?
Usually milder, not automatically gentler. Neem and tea tree in particular are active ingredients and can sting sensitive skin. Patch test as you would with anything else.
Can children use these products?
The baby range is formulated for them and labelled accordingly. The adult range is not — check the pack, and do not assume a herbal adult product is suitable for a child.
How do I know the product is genuine?
Check the seal, the batch number and the expiry printed on the pack itself rather than on a sticker over it. Everything we sell is sourced to arrive sealed and within date, and if what you receive does not match the listing we will put it right.
