Tesco Fruit & Nut Granola 1kg, made in the UK — honey-toasted wholegrain oat clusters with raisins, almonds and coconut.
Contains almonds and honey. Not for children under one year.
Product Overview
Tesco Fruit & Nut Granola is a 1kg UK breakfast cereal: gently honey-toasted wholegrain oat clusters with juicy raisins, flaked almonds and coconut. The 1kg bag is the family size.
Granola is toasted rather than puffed, so the clusters stay crunchy in milk far longer than flakes do — which is the main reason people move to it.
Ingredients, As Printed on the Pack
Oat flakes, sugar, raisins (6%) (raisins, sunflower oil), palm oil, flaked almonds (3%), coconut, nibbed almonds, sunflower seed, desiccated coconut, honey, sugar syrup powder, flavouring.
Two Things Worth Knowing Before You Buy
1. It contains honey, so it must not be given to a child under one year old. Honey can carry the spores that cause infant botulism, and a baby’s gut is not mature enough to handle them until around twelve months. Cooking and toasting do not remove them. This is not a suitable breakfast for an infant.
2. Sugar is the second ingredient. Granola is sold as a healthy breakfast and it does carry real wholegrain oats, fibre, nuts and seeds — but on this pack, sugar comes before the raisins, and there is sugar syrup powder further down as well. That does not make it a bad food; it makes it a sweetened cereal rather than a plain one. Portion it into a bowl rather than pouring, and read the nutrition panel if you are watching sugar.
Nut Allergy Warning
This product is nuts, or contains nuts. A nut allergy can cause a severe and rapid reaction. If there is any doubt at all, do not buy it, and do not serve it to a guest without telling them what is in it.
Whole nuts are a choking hazard for children under five and should be ground or finely chopped for young children rather than given whole.
Allergy Information
Imported snacks are usually made on lines that also handle peanuts, tree nuts, milk, wheat, soya and egg, so a pack can carry traces of an ingredient that is not in the recipe.
If you or your child has a food allergy, read the allergen statement on the pack before opening it. We list what we know from the product, but the printed pack is the only thing that can be relied on, and recipes change without notice.
A Straight Answer on Halal Status
Imported confectionery, biscuits and crisps can contain gelatine, mono- and diglycerides, enzymes or flavourings whose origin the pack does not always state. Some brands carry a halal mark for the market they were made for; many do not, because the market they were printed for did not require one.
We are a shop, not a certifying body, and we will not label something halal that we cannot prove. Check the pack for a certification mark and read the ingredient list. If this matters for your purchase, message us before you order and we will tell you exactly what is printed on the pack we hold.
About Imported Packs
This is a genuine imported product, sourced from the market printed on the pack. That means the label, the ingredient list and the nutrition panel are the ones the manufacturer printed for that country, and the wording may differ from a locally packaged version of the same brand.
Check the expiry date on the pack when it arrives. The pack’s own ingredient list and instructions are the authority on its contents — always read them, especially if you are buying for someone with an allergy or a dietary restriction.
Ways to Eat It
- With cold milk, as a breakfast cereal
- Layered with yoghurt and fresh fruit
- Dry, by the handful, as a snack — a small handful, it is dense
- Scattered over a dessert for crunch
Storage
- Keep the pack somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight.
- Once opened, reseal it tightly or move it into an airtight container. Crisps and biscuits go soft within a day in Dhaka humidity if left open.
- Eat an opened pack within a few days for the best texture — the expiry date on the pack applies to the unopened pack.
- If the pack has arrived punctured or already open, do not eat it. Message us instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my baby eat it?
No — not under one year, because of the honey. Whole nuts and hard clusters are also unsuitable for a very young child.
Is granola healthier than cornflakes?
It has more fibre, more nuts and more whole grain, which is a genuine advantage. It usually also has more sugar and more fat, so read both panels rather than assuming.
Does it contain nuts?
Yes — flaked and nibbed almonds, and coconut. Not suitable for anyone with a nut allergy.
How should I store it once it is open?
Airtight, cool and dry, and eaten within a few days. The date on the pack is for the sealed pack; once air and Dhaka humidity get in, texture goes long before the date does.
How do I check the expiry date?
It is printed on the pack — usually on the base, the seal or the back panel, and often as a “best before” date. Check it as soon as your order arrives. If it is unreadable or very close, message us and we will replace it.
